Disney Plus streaming service finally has launched in India via Hotstar.
Formerly known as Hotstar, Disney + Hotstar is an Indian over-the-top streaming service.
With Disney+ in India, Hotstar’s existing subscribers and new users now have access to all of Disney’s entertaining shows in addition to original American series and show. Disney plus India Hotstar’s subscribers will have access to up to hundreds of films from the Disney family, Marvel Studios, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic, and more.
The streaming service offers over 7,000 episodes of popular and classic TV shows. Hotstar currently has a catalogue of over 4,000 titles and exclusive sports streaming. As Hotstar is known for, Disney+ Hotstar will stream content in eight Indian languages, including Telugu, Tamil, and more.
Disney Plus Release Date
Disney+ launched in India on Friday, 3rd April, 2020. In February, Disney announced plans to integrate its new international streaming brand Disney plus with Hotstar in April 2020.
The launch, which was suspended on the 29th March due to the COVID-19, has finally taken place on 3rd April 2020
Everyone in India will now have access to the biggest Super Heroes, magical stories, and Disney plus Originals.
Disney Plus Price
While existing subscribers on Hotstar can get free access to access to Disney Plus content, new users will have to pay a higher Hotstar subscription fee. Previously, the Hotstar VIP plan costs Rs 365 per year, while the Premium plan is priced at Rs 999 per year. For its new plans, Disney plus Hotstar offers:
- A basic plan that’s ad-supported
- Disney+ Hotstar VIP plan at Rs 399 per year
- Disney+ Hotstar Premium at Rs 1,499 per year

Disney Plus Shows
Disney plus offers family-oriented entertainment programs. The streaming service primarily distributes films and television series produced by The Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Television. Subscribers will explore content from Disney’s Marvel, National Geographic, Pixar, and Star Wars. Disney+ also offers about original films and television series that have been produced from the platform since its launch in November 2019. Disney VIP Plan – Rs 399/year
With a subscription of Rs 399 per year, users will have access to the best of superheroes shows from Marvel, enjoying movies like Iron Man, The Avengers, Thor Ragnarok, and more. Other entertaining films include Frozen II, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Toy Story 4. Cartoons like Mickey Mouse, Doraemon, and others will also be available. This plan also features domestic programs and sports content, including live sports coverage, Indian Premier League and live cricket matches, Hotstar Originals, and Bollywood movies like Tanhaji and Panga.
Disney Premium Plan– Rs1,499/year
This plan features premium international films and television series. Subscribers to the Premium plan will get all the benefits of Disney + Hotstar VIP and 29 Disney+ Originals, including High School Musical, The Mandalorian. Diary of a Future President, Encore!, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Users will also have access to the latest American shows from studios like HBO, Fox, Showtime.

Disney Plus App Download
Since Disney+ is launching its services through Hotstar, there won’t be a dedicated Disney+ Hotstar app to access Disney+ catalog. Hotstar has been rebranded as Disney plus Hostar, and the entire Disney+ catalog is already live on Hotstar.
If you’re an existing Hotstar subscriber, you will be automatically upgraded and charged the new process once you renew their membership on the platform.
