I rate Pluto TV a 8.4 on 10. The Viacom-owned live TV service doesn't feature as many cable staples as other dedicated services, but it has enough extra programming across the news, sports, and entertainment sectors to be worth a look.
You won't get any of the perks of a paid live TV package, such as DVR capabilities, top-notch apps, original channels for Pluto TV or large on-demand content libraries. On-demand programming is precisely as diverse as live programming.
It features whole movies and TV series, not just little clips like you'd expect to get for free on the internet. And many of these movies and TV shows are well-known and well-liked, which was refreshing to see that free services don't usually feature high-quality content, but Pluto TV free app did. The live channels provide more recent programming, which is helpful, but it isn't enough.
Like most free services, Pluto TV offers a terrific top tier of material, but it lacks library depth and includes too few new movies and TV episodes. It has a lot of viewing choices, but it also has some limitations.
In terms of free (and legal) ways to broadcast live TV, Pluto TV free app is pretty much on its own. It has a lot of channels (but not as many as standard cable) and good performance. On the other hand, Pluto TV needs to improve its user interfaces and channel recommendations. The lack of DVR options is also striking, but this is unsurprising given that it is free. Pluto TV would certainly undercut other popular live TV streaming services even if it charged for premium features.
