OVID TV subscription package, features review

Paushali Banerjee | Streaming Expert

I rate Ovid TV a 6.7 on 10. OVID.TV has hundreds of documentaries that aren't available anywhere else. Chantal Akerman, Nikolaus Geyrhalter, Patricio Guzman, Heddy Honigmann, Michael Apted, Chris Marker, Bill Morrison, Raoul Peck, Jean Rouch, Wang Bing, Travis Wilkerson, and Ross McElwee are among the filmmakers represented.

Hundreds of movies are available on the service, with new releases every Friday. The service added another 150 movies to its catalog in April and May, focusing on LGBTQ+ films. The size of Ovid TV's streaming library, the frequency with which new entries are added, and the high quality of the web and mobile app experience are all notable.

Some disadvantages include the absence of subtitle customization choices and that the service is only available to customers in the USA and Canada.

In March 2019, Bullfrog Films, Distrib Films US, First Run Features, Grasshopper Film, Icarus Films, and KimStim announced OVID.TV, a joint venture between six indie film distributors. Ovid. Tv aims to entice these viewers with a selection of indie and arthouse films that can't be found anywhere else.

OVID is a service that gives North American viewers access to hundreds of documentaries, independent films, and famous works of world cinema that are otherwise unavailable to stream. In addition, Docuseek, a streaming network focused on schools and universities with over 1,900 titles, has officially launched the OVID.TV app.

OVID TV Subscription

  • Ovid. Tv is reasonably priced at $6.99 per month, but it isn't the lowest video streaming service I've seen.
  • The plan of Ovid Tv costs $69.99 billed annually.
  • Ovid.Tv offers apps for mobile platforms (Android and iOS) as well as media streaming devices in addition to an online interface (Android TV, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV)
  • You may also get the streaming experience of Ovid TV Roku
  • Ovid. The TV does not have any game console apps.

Features

User Interface:

  • The web interface of Ovid. Tv has a muted black, grey, orange, and white color design that appears cohesive and doesn't detract from the content of the films.
  • I didn't have any performance difficulties or pages that took a long to load during our testing.
  • Browse, Search, and All Titles are the three choices on the top navigation menu in the upper-left corner of the screen.
  • A Profile icon in the top-right corner of the page allows you to access your profile preferences.
  • However, the options in this section are rather basic, and there aren't any that influence the playback experience.
  • You can only change your profile information, modify your billing information, and set email notification choices.

Content catalog:

  • At the time, the OVID.tv app had 900 titles in its collection. Mubi's expanding collection of roughly 800 titles has been slightly surpassed.
  • With over 2,000 titles, Criterion Channel makes a strong showing on both platforms.
  • The documentary Bestiary, F1.1, by Chris Marker is included in the Documentaries section. Be There, Marina Abramovic:
  • The Artist is Present, The Vow from Hiroshima, and The Workers Cup are all on the list.
  • A Man Called Ove can be found in the Recently Added: Narratives category.
  • The Animation Domination area of OVID.tv is a must-see for fans of animated food.
  • Alice, Alois Nebel, and The Book of the Dead are among the films and compilations included. Kihachiro Kawamoto's Exquisite Films, Louise by the Shore, and Tatsumi's The Oscar Nominees and Winners contain titles.

Streaming experience:

  • The playback interface on Ovid. The tv is based on the Vimeo video player.
  • Ovid. Tv's app implementation of the Vimeo player is mixed, even though Vimeo is a competent management service in its own right (and includes a lot of indie content).
  • It has all of the regular playback settings, and if you scroll down the page, the player automatically converts to picture-in-picture mode.
  • I particularly like the option to choose a streaming resolution for listening and the button to add a title to the My List area quickly.

What does it lack?

Parental controls:

  • There are no parental restrictions or a kid's profile options on the web or  Ovid TV app.
  • The majority audience on the platform is adults.

DVR Storage:

  • It does not have any DVR storage. Moreover, you cannot download content for offline viewing later.

Conclusion

Ovid. Tv is excellent for aficionados of obscure and non-English-language films. It is dedicated to rapidly adding new movies and documentaries from various sources to provide you with more viewing options.

The web and smartphone apps for Ovid. Tv streaming is easy to use, and I especially like the snappy search capability. On the other hand, I wish the subtitles could be customized, and the service could be found in more places.
